ALBUM REVIEW: Katatonia - Night Is The New Day

"Night is the new day" indeed, as Katatonia takes the Doom/Alternative genre
and molds it into a very promissing full-length studio album.

Personally, I liked it allot, since it sounds heavier and, should I say, more "epic" than their previous work. Every track in this album has a unique sound, a different piece to the insightfull puzzle that is "Night is the new day".

Although the instrumentals can sometimes seem a little simple, it all comes together in a great way, with incredible melodic vocals, good lyrics and chorus by Jonas Renkse, and a perfect fusion of the guitars, bass and drums,in a very progressive way, making every music non-repetitive within itself. I should point out the good guitar work that fuses melodic and more agressive elements, with some very good riffs and solos along the way.

Overall, a very good album, and definitely a must for all metal fans.

Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare (New Single)

I give to you Avenged Sevenfold's latest single, known as Nightmare.

I decided to post it here because I was amazed by the sheer improvement in their musical quality over the years. I find the song to be quite technical, with good guitar-work (not their best, unfortunatly, but still good) and amazing drums ( by Mr. Mike Portnoy, himself) and still, at the sime time, catchy, like all of A7X's songs, but this one in particular has a certain "je ne sais quoi" regarding the sound itself, as it seems to have a greater ammount of feeling that I believe the band has not been able to portray since the "Waking The Fallen" album, a feeling that I daresay James Owen Sullivan would be proud of!!

I am totally psyched about their new album and eager to give it a full review, let's hope this nightmare goes on for the full length of the said album.

Ronnie James Dio (July 10, 1942 – May 16, 2010).

For my very first post on this blog, I have chosen the subject regarding the recent death of one of the most iconic figures in the metal scene, known as Ronnie James Dio.

Lead singer of highly acclaimed bands, like Heaven & Hell and "The" Black Sabbath, the heavy metal world as we know it owes a great deal of its image ( like, for instance, the "devil horns" who were popularized by him) and sound ( Black Sabbath are probably the most iconic band in heavy metal) to this great man.
He also released several solo albums, amongst them being some headbanger classics like "Holy Diver".

In the sixteenth of May, 2010, Dio succumbed to the stomach cancer he had been struggling with for several months

A multi-instrumentalist musician ( bassist and lead singer), a husband, a humanitarian, and a great man was taken from us.Today, the world of metal and general music finds himself a bit more withered as one of its brightest stars fades away in the darkness of the night, covered by the clouds of cancer.

But such a light will never be put out, for his music will forever reside in our hearts, granting Dio the immortality he always deserved.
